you finally realised the unfortunate mistake that karoo had made. he <strike>ran</strike> tried to skip lectures, but was stopped by the <strike>familiars penalty</strike> dean (ddraig)!
you found that he must be in the same <strike>world</strike> class as you at all times.
he slept over at your <strike>house</strike> halls (in the corridor) to <strike>recover hp</strike> hide from the dean, and you argued (reasoned) with him to help you find <strike>the database connected to the key</strike> a reason for him to stay in school!

its morning.. you step out of your room wearing your pyjamas.
oh.. he is on the floor of the corridor just where you passed him last night.
you dont think that you gave him permission to sleep here! but you know that ddraig can be frightening! she was your mathematics tutor when you were quite young.
he is snoring and there is also drool on the carpet near his face.

"UH!!SORRY!" you bark too loud on accident. you bend down to help him pick up all his books/folders/papers that have scattered everywhere.
"its okay..." he says. you dont really think that its okay, but you put your big paw out to help him up and he takes it.
"im sorry.. i have to go.. i have a test to study for.." he takes all the books/folders/papers and rushes off past you.
"uhh im sorry.." you say at him as he leaves.

karoo snorts awake and with his eyes scrunched closed bats wildly with his big paws at you!

sunlight is coming in through the window... so you tune the radio on the shelf to the 80s music channell.. and you put some coffee on (coffee from a cafetiere. expensive!).
as its brewing you hear stirring from the corridor...oh no! he is onto you.
karoo (groggy expression) leans in the door with a sleepy but hopeful look on his face. his ear fur is messy!
"....umm... goodmorning.." he mumbles
[[cute..|cute]] wait, no! [[his snout is crusted with drool! disgusting!|disgusting]]you cough and then, turning away to hide your embarrassed expression, get another mug to make coffee for karoo too. guessing, you put 3 sugars in and milk.
you hope that he would probably be too polite/desperate to refuse if you made a mistake.
you glance behind you and motion to a chair at the table.. "you could... sit down.. if you wanted... you know"
he stumbles in and knocks the chair over.... you try not to laugh as he puts it back and sits at the table slouching over.
[[give the coffee|coffee]]you pretend that you didnt see him and go back to making your coffee! (black 2 sugars) you sense that he is awkwardly leaning on the doorframe behind you.. he is definitely waiting for your permission/invitation to come in!

you try really hard to ignore him and hope he goes away. but you remember how ddraig had some of the other students search the campus for him last night. he had climbed in through the window to hide from her!
despite yourself you accidentally make a coffee for him too!! [[oh no!|coffee]]. you hope you got it right."just.. sit down!" you say. you didnt mean to say it so sternly, aagh!! karoo had a difficult night last night. it wasnt his fault that he had been chased into your halls of residence to escape ddraig the most threatening staff member. no it was his fault!! it wasnt anything to do with you if he took his place at college for granted and skipped!
as you are thinking this you hear him sit down like you ordered him to, and he clears his throat.. infact.. there is nothing that can make someone feel guiltier than doing something nice for them!
[[you make him a coffee|coffee]]you put his coffee on the table, in front of him. he blushed and his ears twist up into shapes as he fidgets with his paws. "thankyou.." he says and takes a big sip even though it is boiling hot. it doesnt seem to affect him though.
suddenly he sits up straight and smooths his ears out and looks serious.
"umm.. thankyou.. not for the coffee i mean! for the coffee yes, but thankyou for letting me sleep in your hallway"

"first of all, they object to me not wearing "appropriate dress".." he does quote/unquote with his paws bares his teeth and rolls his eyes to show hes joking.
you snort and smile despite yourself...
he rubs his shoulders and grimaces" uhh i just hate the feeling of jackets and shirts and jumpers on my fur!!" he shivers. " i mean, im not like, just showing off all the time. incase you were thinking that.."
you put your paws around your coffee to keep them warm. "well we could go buy something that doesnt feel bad.. i mean if thats the only thing.."
"uh!" he almost yelps (blushing) "i mean! like you dont have to go shopping with me, like.. i dont think ill ever get used to the feeling of it"
"maybe you just havent found the right one yet.." you smile and drink your coffee. "i have a day off today actually.."
he fidgets "haha, they probably would not be happy to see me even if i did turn up.."

the middle of town is a little crowded and it also is pretty cold. furrs passing by in the street keep turning to stare at karoo but he doesnt actually notice but you do (but you dont mention it)
"dont you get cold?" you ask him.
"haha! me! cold! ..yes all the time but i just dont show it!" he winks exaggeratedly at you. his over the top manner is weird but its okay...
heres the shop where you get your clothes. you dont buy clothes often but you have to buy the softest ones.
you go in with him and you look through the jackets with zips. he tries one on and his eyes water up.. "THIS IS THE.. SOFTEST THING I HAVE EVER FELT.."

surprising you he brings up the subject on his own. "i mean, intelligence wise, i heard that you competed in the coding tournament.. and won aswell.. i mean, ddraig mentioned you when she talked to me about not being a waste of space/university funds"
you blush "well its.. a geek thing.. i mean"
he grins widely "yes its a geek thing its the nerdiest thing ever but i can tolerate it because i am so impressed!"

then he spins around and looks like he is about to ask something but then he says something else instead (suspicios) "umm see you then! thanks for letting me stay in your halls!! bye!" and he scurrys off into his building.

the librarian shouts at you and tells you to leave immediately.

you are sat on his bed reading through his homework. "i dont understand this." you say after a while.

"hmm" you chew at a claw "do you have a textbook.. that goes with this..?"
"oh" he says," yeah somewhere." he goes and pushes a pile of papers from his desk and finds underneath a pristine untouched textbook. he brings it back and proudly gives it to you. "i think this is the one"

"ok!" you say grinning and go to get hotchocolate. his coworker is super friendly but seems really concerned about foxin, because she asks you if he is getting enough sleep recently! she assumes youre a good friend of his!? you just give her a noncommital answer but you are concerned too..
going back to the table and sitting down you look at him and ask,

"..you know i hate everyone having such high expectations of me!! like for example everyone just expects me to do all the work i have to do and to impress them i have to do double what everyone else does and im already working so hard! it feels like they have different standards for me!! i mean i want to do well i dont mind my tutors pushing me but this is way too much!!"

he is gesturing with his paws "theyre always saying 'oh foxin do this, can you explain this to the other guys, could you try alittle harder? i mean i know you can go above and beyond everyone else here!' but i dont even really want to! and then i come here and work to PAY to get the extra textbooks for the extra curricular stuff even and its just so much and then i get home and i cant stop worrying!! i mean i paid extra to get a dorm alone and i knew it would be hard to pay for that as well but thats a imperative! i mean i couldnt cope with other peoples mess to tidy up aswell!! but im behind on the rent because they convinced me to represent the college at the coding tournament and they couldnt pay for my rail fare so i had to take extra shifts too and im just so tired!!"
you are staring at him with wide eyes the whole time he is talking and a few people from the cafe & also his coworker are staring.. you hope they are just concerned like you and dont think he is weird.
foxin notices and immedieately snaps his jaws closed and shrinks into the seat.
you dont want to not reply to everything he just said so you say "wow that is difficult.. i barely do anything, nobody expects me to do well ever.."
"hmm" he replies, he seems kind of embarrassed. he really looks like he wants to run out.
-you down the rest of your drink- "UMM ANYWAY" you say "IM DONE SO.. WE CAN GO NOW!" you turn and wave at his coworker and give her a thumbs up too. she grins and waves back.

"hey im just thinking, you think you should maybe do something not college related?" you ask him as you walk down the street away from the cafe.

you think for a bit and then say "i think they would change their expectations of you to me more.. normal maybe?" you offer?
foxin starts chewing on his claws.. "yes.. i mean.. maybe.. i hope so.."
"uhh.. to be honest i mean im really bad at art history!! i dont know why i took it!! i mean i know whats good but.. nobody agrees with me.. i hate writing for that subject the most, i mean its stupid, learning dates and concepts and movements is fine but my tutor is always WRONG!! wrong "subjectively" i mean. but i know shes wrong objectively!! rghg just thinking about it is making me angry!!"
"well.. i think you should drop that class.." you say helpfully.
"youre right.." foxin says looking determined. "ill go speak to the counsellor tomorrow and tell her i want to quit!!"

[[>>>>>|>>>]]the day after it is even colder.. you walk over to foxins halls. his halls are in the old college building and if you knew anything about architecture you would think it was a really old building! you understand why foxin has to work so much to pay for these dorms on top of extra textbooks. you wait for him outside the big doors.
he eventually comes out "sorry!! i wasnt sure what to wear.. i mean.." - he is wearing the same jumper as yesterday-
"i mean, this is the warmest jumper i own and i forgot my coat at the cafe yesterday.." he explains.
"well i like it!! you dont have to fuss over it dont worry i mean" you gesture at yourself. you are wearing your usual clothes that really arent suitable for cold weather except you recently bought a nice jacket that is soft enough to not bother you..
"hmm.. he says..
"well we can go walk by the lake then stop at the cafe?" you suggest.
"yes i think that would be nice" foxin smiles.

you try joking around but you arent very funny. you think foxins sense of humour is more deadpan than yours.. but he is laughing anyway!!
you walk all the way around the lake and back to town to the cafe. foxin also gets hotchocolate this time and gets foam in his whiskers..
"umm this actually is the happiest day i have had since college started..." he admits shyly.."i actually dont go usually go home on holidays either, its just more convenient to stay here and catch up on work.."
"wow.. well now you have more time off i mean, its good that you do.. i think it would be good for you to have a break..?" you say.
"yes" he smiles. "i think it would be.. nice to do something..i mean theres reading week coming up soon and some other stuff i think.."
"wow um.. doing anything would be nice!!" you reply. you really think you like his company.. and youre so glad you made him happier..!
